Nomad (Postcard)

I painted this piece over the summer during what was possibly the most uncertain period of my entire life. I’d just graduated university, and was trying to put my roots down to make the full move to london after living here for my degree. I was between houses, jobs & life stages, essentially sofa surfing for around 3 months. I painted this in an attempt to show those feelings; the constant low level of anxiety you have not knowing where I was going to be staying each night, and having to pack up my life into a suitcase each morning. Having houses, friends and family to go back to but not a Home.

Of course, the one consistency throughout all of this, was me bringing my paints everywhere I could; even when it was incredibly inconvenient travelling up and down the country & across tube lines with a portfolio full of canvases and 2L of turpentine in my backpack. This painting honestly just demonstrates how much painting grounds me, no matter where I am or how unstable my situation is. Thankfully, things are better now, and god is it so much nicer to now be able to paint in my own space, with my easel & plants, even if my studio does double as my living room.
